Jeff Stoffer, Director of the Media and Communications Division for the American Legion, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to talk about the July edition of the American Legion magazine. Stoffer talked about the Flagwavers article, an article on the National Parks providing opportunities for veterans and the 120th anniversary of Harley-Davidson.

In the article titled Flagwavers in July’s edition of the American Legion Magazine, the author of looks at Millennials and Gen-Z Americans who no longer believe in the idea of American identity. The article discusses decreases in military recruitment due to a lack of propensity to serve. The article also tells stories from 10 countries about the importance of America and the American Flag to their people. The author asks that we stop looking at the things that are wrong in America and begin looking at the good things in the country.

National Parks have had a long relationship with the American military including, providing training grounds and housing for troops. Now, as the National Parks struggle with staffing and finding qualified workers, they’re looking to veterans. Stoffer discussed the article’s hope to attract veterans to work in the National Park Service, whether that be full-time or in a volunteer position. Maintenance workers are in major need, so any veteran with previous maintenance or repair experience should apply, he said.

War on two wheels, an article about Harley-Davidson’s 120th anniversary, capped off Stoffer's discussion. The article dives into the origins of Harley-Davidson from a garage in Milwaukee, Wis. It focuses on its service to our military and many of the allies during World War II, including a distinguished service honor. Stoffer then discussed the Legion’s Legacy Run with the American Riders and how last year’s run made a stop at the Harley-Davidson Headquarters in Milwaukee.
