James Hyden, the Executive Secretary of the Greater Cincinnati Building and Construction Trades Council, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and spoke about the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor project and apprenticeship recruitment.

The GCBCTC represents members of the building trades in four counties in Southwest Ohio.

In 1994, as an apprentice with Ironworkers Local 44, Hyden was told he would get to work on the project to replace the Brent Spence Bridge. Now, nearly 30 years later, the project is about to become a reality thanks to $1.6 billion in federal funding. Hyden believes the project will break ground this fall.

Hyden then talked about apprenticeship recruitment and the work to make sure a building trades apprenticeship in Greater Cincinnati is not the region’s best-kept secret.

He also spoke about the career pathway he took to go from a non-union glazier to the leader of a regional building trades council.

Listen to Hyden’s interview to learn more about the these topics.
