Jeff Stoffer, Director of Media and Communications for the American Legion, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the work done by accredited Service Officers and potential scams veterans could encounter. Stoffer also previewed an article in the January edition of the Legion Magazine.

Service Officers of the American Legion provide free representation for Veterans seeking VA benefits. The 22 Service Officers are accredited and work out of American Legion offices in Washington D.C. and Indianapolis. The officers work on the appeal process, help find reasons for the initial denial of benefits and help the veterans get the benefits they deserve. Stoffer talked about the work done in 2023 by the officers and some notable cases overturned by these Service Officers.

Stoffer continued by talking about various scams being run by people seeking to take advantage of veterans looking for help. The number of these scams that have taken advantage of veterans has grown recently. Stoffer also discussed what the American Legion’s National Executive Committee is doing to help prevent these scams.

Finally, Stoffer discussed Alan Dowd’s article in January’s edition of the Legion Magazine. The article focuses on the strife in the Middle East. The article details the events that have occurred in the region since the end of World War II and what has led to the current conflicts in the region. For more from the article, please check out the January edition of the Legion Magazine.
