Written by awfblog | August 16, 2024

Jeff Stoffer, Director of Media and Communications for the American Legion, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the September edition of the American Legion Magazine. He also discussed the 2024 Military Life Cycle and Transition Summit

Recently, Stoffer attended the Military Life Cycle and Transition Summit at the University of Chicago. He explained how the summit helps veterans, especially those who have gotten into legal trouble after leaving the military. Throughout the event, one main focus was to help veterans transition back into the civilian workforce. Among the potential solutions is a cybersecurity scholarship from the American Legion’s Task Force Movement, which will help connect veterans with jobs in the cybersecurity industry.

Stoffer discussed the featured article, Lost and Found. This article focuses on a former prisoner of war, Shoshana Johnson, who was injured and captured in 2003 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Stoffer said the article provides details from Johnson about her survival during her 22 days as a POW. Stoffer summed up the story and gave an update on how Johnson is handling both the physical and mental scars.

Finally, Stoffer discussed The Power of Storytelling article that looks at the work of best-selling author Kristin Hannah and why her latest novel is set during the Vietnam War. In the article, Hannah explained that her inspiration was former Army nurse Diane Carlson Evans and her 2020 autobiography “Healing Wounds.”
