Workers tend to devalue their own worth, settle for lower pay

Written by awfblog | July 8, 2022

Labor Attorney Eric R. Brown joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed how employees often discount the value they bring to their workplaces and are therefore willing to settle for less money than they are worth.

Brown said the problem is particularly prevalent among women, who often earn 5 to 7 percent less than their male counterparts despite delivering comparable value. He talked about the need for undervalued workers to challenge low pay through arbitration.

He also dispelled the myth that public sector workers enjoy better benefits packages while delivering less to the workforce because these workers face similar health insurance copays as the private sector and proved to be essential during the pandemic.
