North Coast Area Labor Federation President Pat Gallagher made his regular appearance on the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the United Steelworkers (USW) 2022 Constitutional Convention, held Aug. 8 to 11 in Las Vegas.
Gallagher is also Sub-District Director for USW District 1.
Typically, the USW Convention is held every three years. However, this is the first one to take place since 2017, as the 2020 Convention was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gallagher explained. This year’s convention included more than 2,000 delegates and over 3,000 observers, he added.
The theme of the convention was that the USW is a union for everyone, and a high priority was placed on organizing, Gallagher said. He then discussed the USW’s plans for a new organizing tactic.
Gallagher also spoke about the Inflation Reduction Act recently signed by President Biden and how it may impact working people.
