Andrew Strom, a labor lawyer and law professor at the Brooklyn Law School, joined the America's Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the complexities facing the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the impact of President Biden's pro-union tenure.
Strom highlighted President Biden's efforts to position himself as the most pro-union president in history. However, during his tenure, the NLRB faced significant challenges in reversing the policies implemented during the Trump administration. Strom noted that Biden’s board had to spend most of their time rolling back the anti-worker policies from past administrations.
Strom pointed out the stark contrast in the number of decisions issued by the NLRB under different administrations. The NLRB output under Biden’s output was significantly lower, which he attributed to the focus on reversing Trump-era decisions. Strom emphasized the lengthy process workers face when seeking justice through the NLRB, describing it as a multi-step ordeal that can take years.
Looking ahead, Strom expressed concerns about potential changes in the NLRB's direction with Trump’s return. He warned that the progress made under Biden could be quickly undone, as seen in previous transitions. Labor will have to work together to ensure any changes won’t undo the good work under the Biden Administration, but Strom added it won’t be easy.
