Dave Megenhardt, Executive Director of the United Labor Agency, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss a job and training fair in Cleveland. He also discussed ULA’s efforts to register Cleveland residents to vote and provided information on this year's Unsung Heroes of Labor event.

The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18 in Cleveland will host an Environmental Job and Training Fair today, Sept. 4. Megenhardt discussed the types of training and work opportunities available to event attendees. The fair is part of the Build Environment Workforce Initiative and Cleveland Builds, which is an Apprenticeship Readiness Program that provides residents with an opportunity to join a building trades union and earn a family-sustaining income.

The ULA is also helping residents in the Cleveland area register to vote. As a 501(c)3 organization, it does not tell individuals how to vote, but Megenhardt said it wants to help people exercise their right to vote. He said voting is the best way to impact a community's future and wants to ensure residents can vote.

The Pipefitters Local 120 Union Hall will host this year's Unsung Heroes of Labor ceremony. Megenhardt said the Oct. 24 event brings together members of Cleveland’s labor movement to honor the people who helped to push the labor movement forward without recognition. He said there is no better place to celebrate those unsung heroes in the region than a union hall.

Listen to the show to hear more about the work the ULA is doing in the Cleveland area.
