Fred Redmond, Secretary-Treasurer of the AFL-CIO, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss an event in New York City to kick off a new high-speed rail project. Redmond also discussed canvassing campaigns across the country and what they are doing to educate union members about the difference in pro-worker policies between the presidential candidates.
Earlier this week, Redmond was in New York City to celebrate the announcement of a new project that will install high-speed railways across the Eastern United States. The important announcement took place at the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union Hall. The rail lines will run along the Eastern U.S. and create thousands of jobs for union members. Redmond discussed the event and what it means for the future of rail transportation on the East Coast.
Currently, Redmond is at the A Phillip Randolph Institute, where he serves as Chairman of the Board. Along with six other community organizations, they will be starting their Michigan canvassing campaign. He talked about the campaign's goal and how it could impact the Presidential election.
Finally, Redmond discussed several educational campaigns across the U.S. using Local Labor Councils and union members. Its Better in a Union is the theme of all the campaigns. They are intended to educate union members about the differences between the two candidates and their policies toward workers' rights.
