Written by awfblog | September 3, 2025

Dave Megenhardt, Executive Director of the United Labor Agency, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and spoke about the upcoming launch of a union job board and the annual Unsung Heroes of the Labor Movement dinner. The job board aims to centralize union job listings in Northeast Ohio, while the dinner recognizes rank-and-file union members for their community contributions.

The union job board, set to launch within weeks, will provide a comprehensive platform for union job seekers in Northeast Ohio. Megenhardt explained that it will be accessible through the North Shore AFL-CIO website, as the board will feature high-quality positions across all sectors - from steelworkers to building trades. He said the initiative aims to showcase the superior wages, benefits and working conditions of union jobs while addressing talent acquisition challenges for union companies.

Discussion then turned to the annual Unsung Heroes of the Labor Movement dinner, set to take place on Oct. 16 at the Pipefitters Local 120 Union Hall. The dinner celebrates rank-and-file union members who make significant contributions to their communities and unions. Megenhardt explained that award nominations are open until Oct. 10, as six to eight individuals are typically recognized for their efforts in areas such as starting food banks, supporting election efforts or providing guidance to fellow union members.

He emphasized that funds raised from the dinner support various United Labor Agency initiatives, including the new job board, counseling services for union members facing mental health crises and workforce development programs. Megenhardt said the event not only honors unsung heroes but also reinforces the importance of community engagement and union values in today's labor landscape.
