UAW Region 2B members earn better benefits with recent contract wins

Written by awfblog | June 7, 2024

David Green, Director of the United Auto Workers Region 2B, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to talk about the recent bargaining and organizing wins for members. Green also talked about the growing issues with Stellantis and members of Local 12 in Toledo, Ohio. Finally, he talked about several training classes and upcoming organizing drives.

It’s been a busy past month for the bargaining units in Region 2B. With 10 new contracts ratified and 16 more still in negotiation, Green is excited about the wins he’s seen for UAW members. The region covers 310 bargaining units across Ohio and Indiana. Some of the companies members work at are responsible for manufacturing the Chevrolet Silverado, Ford vans, Jeep Wrangler, Abrams Tank and Military Humvees.

Among the companies represented in Region 2B is the Stellantis plant, represented by UAW Local 12 in Toledo. There have been several issues since the new contract was agreed to by the Big 3 automakers in 2023. Green talked about what is being done to enforce the contract with the automaker. Part of the solution has been to switch the leadership for the Stellantis department of the UAW, placing President Shawn Fain in charge of the division.

Green and Region 2B leaders still have a lot to do, as he discussed the region's upcoming schedule. He talked about the care flight nurses at Miami Valley Hospital Dayton, who will hold a union vote to join the UAW on June 10 and 11. The union plans to hold several organizing and training classes for members in the upcoming months. Green said these classes should prepare members for the unique challenges employers could create.
