United Auto Workers Legislative Director Josh Nassar discussed Joe Biden visiting a UAW facility, potential COVID-19 relief and more on the Sept. 10 episode of America’s Work Force Union Podcast.

Campaigning for the union vote

At the beginning of the episode, Nassar touched on the fact that both Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris have visited union facilities in recent days. Sen. Harris visited an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers training center while Joe Biden visited a UAW facility in Warren, Michigan.

At the facility, Biden provided his plan for how he will encourage American manufacturing of vehicles and other goods.

Lack of enforcement regarding COVID-19

Nassar then blasted the lack of a nationwide emergency protection standard. He said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration needs to step up where the organization has been lacking when it comes to enforcing COVID-19 regulations and guidelines.

COVID-19 relief

The conversation switched gears and Nassar speculated about a COVID-19 relief package that may be coming.

Nassar said the issues with this package are that it does not provide aid directly to states and cities. He also said the package leaves some in limbo as there is no answer in sight for what they will do if they lose their healthcare.

The supposed relief does not include liability for employers. If an employee gets sick at work, there is nothing protecting them, Nassar said.

Finally, he talked about healing the economy. Nassar said while the economy is being falsely propped up, we need to focus on getting past COVID-19. Only once we have moved past it will the economy truly heal.
