Chairman of the United Steel Workers Local 979 Grievance Committee Tony Panza joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed recent updates with Cleveland-Cliffs and how he has handled the grievances of Local 979 members.
Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc. is the largest flat-rolled steel company in North America and a leading supplier of automotive-grade steel.
Compared to past years, Cleveland-Cliffs has been more difficult to work. However, Panza noticed a significant change after talking with their President and Vice President. He feels Local 979 members who wish to work for Cleveland-Cliffs will be pleasantly surprised by the shift in management.
Panza then provided listeners with some insight into the day-to-day grievances filed by Local 979 members. He has noticed younger members have taken an appreciation for their time off. While this is not an incredibly harmful issue, it has limited employee overtime and causes new projects to be strung on for longer periods of time.
