Executive Director of the United Labor Agency, Dave Megenhardt, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to talk about an educational program now available through the agency and benefits it provides workers and the upcoming ULA UnSung Heroes Dinner.
The United Labor Agency has teamed up with an online learning platform called Coursera. The platform has created classrooms and training videos using techniques and educators from the best schools in the world. The platform has a wide range of educational opportunities to pursue. This allows the ULA to direct prospective workers to educational programs to prepare for alternative careers. Certifications and even a Bachelor's degree are possible for workers through the program, Megenhardt said.
The ULA plans to use the program to educate new and older workers alike. There are also plans to teach soft skills to further prepare workers for a future career. The platform is a self-driven learning program, accessible from home or an office, it’s free from the ULA and will last as long as you remain active in the program.
The ULA UnSung Heroes Dinner is an event hosted by the ULA to promote people who are working to support and promote the labor movement in the Cleveland area. Nominations are open, and Megenhardt said they’re looking for local unions to nominate people who don’t normally get recognized for their hard work and dedication to their fellow workers. It’s an honor hearing the stories of the people accepting the awards throughout the night, Megenhardt said. Nominations and more information on the event is available at the ULA’s website, ulagency.org.
