Scott Paul, President of the Alliance for American Manufacturing, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss USA-made companies and reshoring the manufacturing industry this Independence Day.
Ralph Lauren has released the opening and closing ceremony uniforms for the 2024 U.S.A. Olympic team to wear in Paris. Unique from past renditions the company has produced, these outfits are completely American-made. Paul discussed the past controversies that led Ralph Lauren to now roduce the outfits in the U.S.
According to Paul, based on polling from the AAM, Americans have said they would prefer American goods and even pay more for them. He explained the reasons behind the desire to have Made in America products and why some retailers seek more American goods. Not only is it about helping the community, but U.S.-produced goods also help raise the standard of living by improving local economies.
To get back to the days of old, as Paul put it, there will need to be a comprehensive strategy to reshore the U.S. manufacturing industry. He explained some of the potential policies that need to be put in place. Paul also explained that there must be common-sense benefits for companies returning to the U.S. to help offset some of their costs. There is a balance that the American government must find in order to bring manufacturing back to American soil.
