Director of the American Legion Media & Communications Division, Jeff Stoffer, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to talk about the cover story for the upcoming edition of the American Legion Magazine. Stoffer also discussed an interview with the Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Denis Richard McDonough.

The cover story focuses on the impact of artificial intelligence and its potential pitfalls. It reviews the spectrum of AI and its security risks in America, Stoffer said. The article looks at past cyber attacks and how these could be used as a precursor and a warning to the future of AI.

According to the article, the U.S. Government still only moves as fast as humans move. They have yet to embrace technology like other countries and, therefore, can’t make as many adjustments. It suffers technical deficits, according to the article's authors, and these deficits could set back the United States’ position with world leaders. Stoffer also worries about the possible impact on labor and careers in industry and military jobs.

The American Legion has worked to provide assistance and help for veterans needing mental health treatments, and this topic is also in this edition of the magazine. Director of the VA, Denis Richard McDonough, said that the Legion and VA are working together to strengthen the mental health infrastructure for veterans. Stoffer talked about details laid out by McDonough that showcase the work being done to improve the mental health treatment plan for veterans. While this is a great start, Stoffer said there is still work to be done and mentioned the need to improve the application process and how quickly they can be processed.
