Teamsters Local 651 President James Brant joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed negotiations over a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between Teamster members and the United Parcel Service (UPS).
Based in Lexington, Ky., Local 651 represents over 3,000 members, including many UPS drivers.
The current contract expires on Aug. 1, 2023, but negotiations are already underway, he said.
Brant detailed a number of the union’s priorities for the next contract, including ending a two-tier wage system and the removal of in-cab surveillance cameras that face the driver. Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien indicated the Union will walk away from any contract that does not address these issues.
Brant also gave his thoughts on last year’s election of O’Brien and General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman to lead the International.
