Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 660 President Guy Callaway Jr. joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the need to support pro-union politicians, no matter their party affiliation.
Local 660 represents about 1,200 workers in Missouri and Kansas.
He spoke about his efforts to encourage Local 660 members to vote with their pocketbook when it comes to supporting candidates that support unions. It is important to not focus on the political party, but where the candidate stands on labor issues, he explained.
As an example, Callaway discussed the candidacy of Local 660 member Patrick Lewis, who is running for a U.S. Senate seat in Missouri as a Republican.
He also talked about the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the opportunities it will bring to Local 660. There is talk that IIJA funding will soon be available to update Interstate 70 in Missouri, as well as Lock and Dam No. 25 in Winfield and Lock and Dam No. 22 near Saverton, he said.
