America's Work Force Union Podcast

Supply chain shortages create downturn in hours worked

Written by awfblog | October 31, 2022

Thomas Fisher, Business Manager and Financial Secretary for Sheet Metal Workers Local 441,  joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed how supply chain shortages have caused hiccups in the Local’s workload.

Local 441 represents 800 members in Lousiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.

Work has hit a lull as numerous projects face delays due to a lack of equipment and supplies, which may lead to less work hours, Fisher admitted. He explained how the Union helps its members find work, including opportunities for travelers during the dry spells.

Fisher also spoke about the wide range of skills sheet metal workers possess and how these skills can transfer into other crafts within the sheet metal industry.

He then touched on the need for the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee to grow the Local’s membership and strategies to organize signatory contractors to provide more work for the membership.
