Rich Fiesta, Executive Director of the Alliance for Retired Americans, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the potential impact the Presidential Election could have on retirees.
According to Fiesta, the senior vote—in this case, those 65 and older—was split, with voters casting 49 percent of their votes for both the Harris and Trump tickets. He added that this was the best senior voting turnout for the Democratic party.
The Alliance endorsed 263 candidates across the country before the election races. Fiesta said 186 of these “friends of retirees” won their races. This is good news for retirees, as a number of policymakers returning to Capitol Hill will help defend public programs like Social Security.
Finally, Fiesta discussed the potential impact Trump’s proposed tax cuts could have on Social Security's future. According to Fiesta, these cuts would shorten the program's solvency by nearly a decade.
