U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to talk about the proposed Amtrak expansion in Ohio. Brown also discussed his work to maintain steel industry jobs in the United States.
While Amtrak crisscrosses America, it’s not a viable daily option for public transit outside of the Northeastern United States. The United States Department of Transportation recently identified four lines in Ohio to make a primary focus for expansion. Sen. Brown has worked with a group of legislators to push for the expansion of Amtrak in several Ohio cities. It also will provide an opportunity for good union jobs in the state and expand passenger rail routing.
The United Steelworkers and the Cleveland-Cliffs Steel Mill have been working with Sen. Brown to ensure jobs in the steel industry stay in the United States. If we allow the jobs to leave the country, there’s no guarantees to the quality of the steel and the protection of the workers. Ensuring that steel used to build major American infrastructure is high-quality, made correctly and safe to use is just one of Brown’s goals.
