Registered apprenticeship programs lead to rewarding careers

Stephen Tavernia Business Agent, Apprenticeship Coordinator and Recording Secretary for   Ironworkers Local 33 joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast as part of National Apprenticeship Week. He talked about his personal journey of getting organized into the union and the importance of growing the Local through both organizing and apprentice recruitment. He also explained the benefits of a registered apprenticeship program.

Ironworkers Local 33 has 180 active members and covers parts of 12 countries in Central New York.

Tavernia told his story about a problem he had in high school that led him to a career in the non-union construction industry. He then explained what happened that led him to become a member of Local 33. 

He also spoke about the Local 33 apprenticeship program and how they need to grow the program due to the busy future work outlook.
