AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Fred Redmond was a guest on today’s episode of the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and shared the concerns of workers who are worried they will lose their jobs to advances in technology.
Redmond acknowledged workers feel threatened by technology, which they believe will replace them and leave them unemployed. He understands their concerns and hopes technology can be used to grow the labor movement, not eliminate jobs.
Calling in from the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, he also spoke about the need to expand union membership in the high-tech sector.
Redmond also spoke about an upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. conference and how Dr. King’s message is central to the labor movement.
