Fred Redmond, AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer, appeared on the AWF Union Podcast and discussed the AFL-CIO’s partnership with Microsoft and the organization’s upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day Conference.
Redmond talked about the AFL-CIO’s partnership with Microsoft, which was established when AFL-CIO President Liz Schuler attended a conference and talked about worker job security. He said that job security is a concern for modern-day workers due to artificial intelligence and other new technologies. As the implementation of AI expands, it will affect all workers in all industries. The goal of the partnership is to help workers see the longevity their jobs could have thanks to AI, which will help solidify their future.
Redmond then discussed the upcoming MLK Day Conference in Montgomery, Ala., which pays respect to the late Dr. King. This year, the theme is to take control of the future. Conference speakers and panels will discuss how to save democracy in the upcoming election. He stressed the importance of encouraging workers to fight for an equitable country and to vote for the candidates who support workers. Members of the civil rights movement and those in organized labor must take action together to create a more desirable environment, he said.
