Recent union wins call for new policies that empower workers

Joe McCartin, a professor at Georgetown University and a contributing writer for Working Class Perspectives, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed why recent union wins across the nation are a call for a broad set of policies to empower working people.

He equated the recent resurgence of unionization, particularly among young people, to a generational movement much like the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. The union movement needs to think big and take advantage of its momentum to make real and meaningful change, he added.

McCartin then talked about an online forum the Kalmanovitz Initiative for Labor and the Working Poor held earlier this month entitled, “The Pandemic Worker Wave and a New Social Compact,” that explored these same issues.
