Fred Redmond, AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer, was a guest on the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and explained how the nation’s railroad workers have suffered due to corporate greed.
Redmond recently had a conversation with 12 railroad workers and learned they have not received pay increases. Since 2015, the railroads have made $146 billion, but cut jobs, worker pay and offer poor healthcare benefits. This has resulted in fewer workers. Those who remain on the job work more hours for less pay.
He also touched on the Inflation Reduction Act.
Changes were recently made to the legislation in an attempt to get the support of Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.). Redmond believes the changes will not alter the intent of the bill. He expects the final vote to be a 50/50 split in the Senate.
