United Auto Workers (UAW) Legislative Director Josh Nassar joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the results of UAW-endorsed candidates on the ballot in the mid-term elections, and why canvassing on the part of the labor movement paid off.
The election was proof that encouraging union members to vote and educating them about the candidates and issues can have a profound impact on the results, Nassar said. UAW-endorsed candidates did very well, thanks to the support of UAW members who made phone calls and knocked on doors, he added.
Nassar then spoke about the lame duck session of Congress. He said there is a need for Congress to address voting rights and labor rights, and to increase funding for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). He also hopes funding for the Trade Adjustment Assistance for Workers (TAA) will be renewed.
