America's Work Force Union Podcast

Mechanical Insulators have rewarding careers, not jobs

Written by awfblog | December 28, 2022

Pete Ielmini, Executive Director of the Mechanical Insulators Labor Management Cooperative Trust (LMCT) joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the different career pathways for members of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers.

Ielmini explained how many jobs are temporary, but those who join the Insulators Union will enjoy a fulfilling and stable career. The Insulator’s registered apprenticeship program trains aspiring workers to become highly skilled journeymen in their desired occupation and different career pathways available. Journeymen earn great wages and excellent fringe benefits to perform mechanical insulation work at a high level, he said.

He then spoke about the need for better firestop inspections in buildings and how properly installed firestop and smokeseal will save lives by preventing smoke and fire from traveling through a structure.

Ielmini also discussed the Federal Mechanical Insulation Act, H.R. 9419, and his aspirations for the bill to be reintroduced during the 2023 legislative session of Congress.
