Maintaining Chinese tariffs is critical to U.S. manufacturing

Written by awfblog | June 23, 2022

The Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) President Scott Paul joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the need to maintain U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports in order to protect and grow the  American manufacturing sector.

Paul said both U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and U.S. Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) have urged President Joe Biden to maintain the Chinese tariffs implemented by former President Trump. Reversing the Chinese tariffs would have little impact on inflation and would discourage the resurgence of U.S. manufacturing, Paul said.

Paul then spoke about the need to encourage the U.S. domestic production of solar panels and to enforce bans on all imports from China’s Xinjiang region where slave labor is taking place.

He also explained the need to pass the Bipartisan Innovation Act to encourage the domestic production of semiconductor chips.
