American Postal Workers Union Local 4553 President John Flattery joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the degradation of mail service that has occurred under Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.
Local 4553 represents about 650 postal workers in Central Massachusetts.
Flattery estimated that mail now takes twice as long to deliver due to changes implemented by DeJoy, including the closure of post offices, offlining equipment and a reduction in personnel.
He also explained how the USPS’s two-tier wage system has impacted retention, turnover rates and employee morale.
