Tony Quillen, Business Manager and Financial Secretary of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 558, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed how the Local altered its apprenticeship program from five years to four years without losing any training hours or affecting its quality.
Apprentices frequently work six 10 hour days and attend class one or two nights per week, essentially putting in 125 percent of the time required by the five year program, Quillen said..
Quillen said the Alabama Local has enjoyed considerable growth over the last 48 months, as the apprenticeship program in particular has exploded.
