Columbus/Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council Executive Secretary-Treasurer Dorsey Hager made his monthly appearance on the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and provided an update on the $20 billion Intel semiconductor plant being built in New Albany.

According to Hager, construction is moving in the right direction, as union tradesmen and tradeswomen are performing site preparation. The project is still on schedule for the building to break ground by the beginning of 2023. Hager is working with local building trades unions to help recruit laborers, operating engineers, ironworkers, plumbers, pipefitters and electricians for the project. He expects to have 6,000 union construction workers on-site by the middle of summer.

He also provided an update on the $4 billion Honda/LG electric vehicle battery plant that will be built in Fayette County. Site work began on Nov. 15, and a groundbreaking is planned for early in the new year. The new joint venture plant is scheduled to mass-produce commercial batteries on site by summer 2024.
