Columbus/Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council Executive Secretary-Treasurer Dorsey Hager made his monthly appearance on the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the Intel plant groundbreaking ceremony in New Albany, Ohio and the incredible opportunities the project will bring to members of the area’s building trades.
The ceremonial groundbreaking took place on Sept. 9 and included speeches by a number of dignitaries including President Biden and U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio). Hager noted that many of the guests were impressed with the total construction outlook in that area of Ohio, including the Facebook and Amazon datacenters and the Amgen plant. Members of the national media were unaware of all the work going on in the region, he added.
Hager then talked about the work opportunities for members of the area’s building trades that will be created by the project. He said that anybody who graduates from high school and is interested in construction can look forward to great career opportunities in the area for years to come.
Hager also discussed the North America’s Building Trades Union (NABTU) Conference, which he attended in Las Vegas. The conference focused on apprenticeship readiness programs, which have grown significantly in recent years as a method to encourage more people to begin a career with the building trades.
