Gina Higgin, Account Manager with Perspectives—an Allone Health Company—joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the assistance the organization provides to members of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers through its Member Assistance Program (IMAP) during our National Suicide Prevention Month coverage.
Perspectives is an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) that provides whole health benefits that drive the success of unions and individuals. Higgin talked about the need to provide better mental health care and suicide prevention resources to members of the building trades. She discussed some of the unions that Perspectives works with to provide resources for members' mental health care.
Higgin discussed the difference between Perspectives’ resources and some crisis resources available to the public. She discussed the program's daily usage to help members approach proper mental health. Higgin talked about the resources members of the Insulators Union can access through its Member Assistance Program. She also discussed how these daily living tools can make a long-term difference in a member’s mental health care.
Finally, Higgin discussed why mental health concerns have become a more significant focus for unions after the pandemic. She said that many members faced mental health triggers during the pandemic. Members potentially developed some poor habits that made their mental health worse when they returned to work. These poor mental health environments are what unions and organizations like Perspectives are trying to fix, Higgin said.
