Central Indiana Building and Construction Trades Council (CINBCTC) President and Executive Director Jon Hooker joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed how Indiana’s construction boom has impacted the state’s building trades and the need to grow apprenticeship programs to meet the expanding demand.

Indiana’s construction boom has been great for the building trades and the community, but the construction industry has reached a tipping point and can only satisfy so much demand for workers, Hooker said. He talked about the CINBCTC’s efforts to recruit students in high schools and trade schools into registered apprenticeship programs. He also explained the Indiana Careers in Construction Association (ICCA), which promotes educational and career opportunities in the construction industry throughout the state.

Hooker then talked about the challenges of organizing in Indiana, a So-Called “Right to Work” state and how apprenticeship standards in the Inflation Reduction Act will affect the building trades.
