Jimmy Miller, Vice President and Membership Development Coordinator for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1105, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed recruitment efforts to grow the Local to meet the construction demands of the $20 billion Intel plant project in New Albany, Ohio.
Local 1105 represents electrical workers in Central Ohio and in preparation for the construction, the Local has quadrupled its apprenticeship program, he said.
Miller explained how the International office has taken an intense interest in the recruitment of new members in Central Ohio, as the Intel project will be one of the largest construction projects in the country.
He also detailed the Local’s recruitment efforts at area high schools and the interest he has received once students understand the wage scale and opportunities available.
