America's Work Force Union Podcast

Great Resignation creates union opportunities in Right to Work states

Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 169 Business Manager Richard “Skip” Daly and Assistant Business Manager Eloy Jara joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed how the Great Resignation has encouraged more contractors to hire union workers due to the reliable workforce organized labor can provide.

Local 169 represents construction workers and specialty subcontractors in northern Nevada.

Even though Nevada is a So-Called “Right to Work” state, Local 169 has no shortage of signatory contractors who rely on the Local to supply their manpower, Daly said.

To meet the growing demand for workers, Local 169 is expanding its recruitment efforts and apprenticeship programs, often siphoning workers from non-union contractors through the enticement of better pay and benefits, Jara said.

Unions, employers and employees form a mutually beneficial three legged stool that sustains itself through cooperation, Daly said.

Jara also discussed numerous solar projects in Nevada where union laborers are working.
