Georgia AFL-CIO President Charlie Flemming joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the changing political landscape in Georgia, which has made the state more union friendly.

Georgia’s shifting politics have transformed the state from red to purple, as seen during the last election. Fleming noted this was a long time in the making. Democrats are winning more elections and gaining ground throughout the state, steadily creating a climate more friendly to organized labor and working families, he added.

Flemming then spoke about the rise of Stacey Abrams and her current run for governor.

He also discussed voter suppression efforts in the state, particularly a recent law that limited ballot drop boxes and made it illegal to pass out water at the polls. Despite this legislation, he remains optimistic pro-labor politicians will ultimately win on election night. The recent voter suppression tactics show the desperation of anti-union politicians who are afraid they will lose, he said.
