Iowa Professional Firefighters (IPFF) President Ryan Hanghian joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed Fire Prevention Month, which gives firefighters the opportunity to connect with children in the community and educate them on the basics of fire safety.

Hanghian appeared on AWF during Fire Prevention Week, which takes place from Oct. 9 to Oct. 15, during Fire Prevention Month.

Hanghian called October a fun time of the year to connect with area children and teach the basics, such as “Stop, Drop and Roll”, and the need to create a central family meeting place in case of an emergency. It is an opportunity for community fire departments to be present and connect with the community in a non-emergency situation, he added.

Hanghian also talked about a bill being considered by the Iowa State Legislature that, if passed, would expand the firefighters’ pension and disability system.
