America's Work Force Union Podcast

Federal jobs would be eliminated if Project 2025 becomes a reality

Written by awfblog | August 21, 2024

Jacqueline Simon, Policy Director for the American Federation of Government Employees, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the AFGE National Convention and the potential impact Project 2025 could have on federal employees.

The AFGE National Convention took place last week, and Simon discussed the excitement around the union's future. She spoke about the topics addressed during the convention, including the upcoming Presidential election and what it could mean for federal workers.

Simon detailed Project 2025’s recommendations and how they could impact federal employment. She discussed the rumored defunding, reallocation of agency funding and preferential hiring practices that could result if Project 2025 is implemented. Simon was not hopeful for the union's future success if the plan for future federal policy were to be enacted.

According to Simon, the VA would also be at risk of major overhauls. She discussed the potential impact Project 2025 would have on the agency if it were implemented. Simon outlined the potential effects of these impacts on workers and the potential elimination of VA hospitals and clinics, which would leave veterans no choice but to use private hospitals.

Please listen to the show above to hear more from Simon. All of the potential risks to federal workers from Project 2025 can be found at AFGE.org.
