Written by awfblog | December 5, 2022

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1205 Business Manager Lanny Mathis joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the opportunities electric vehicle (EV) charging stations provide members of the IBEW under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Local 1205 represents 550 members in northern central and west Florida, along with south Georgia.

The Local 1205 Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee’s apprenticeship program now includes a battery charging station class as part of its fifth-year curriculum, Mathis said. He talked about the opportunities available to the electrical industry if every retail shop had a charging station. It will be millions of dollars coming to the industry, he added.

Mathis also spoke about the Local’s renovation of Tyndall Air Force base, which was destroyed by Hurricane Michael. He also touchced on the challenges of working with politicians in Florida, a So-Called “Right to Work” state.
