Greg Gove, Business Manager of Plumbers, Pipefitters, Welders and HVAC Techs Local 693 and Financial Secretary of the Vermont Building and Construction Trades Council (BCTC), joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the role of trade unions as employment agencies that provide highly skilled and qualified workers on demand.

Local 693 represents plumbers, pipefitters, welders and HVAC service technicians in Vermont.

Though Vermont is not a So-Called “Right to Work” state, it does have some anti-union sentiment, Gove explained. He works to counteract this trend by educating potential signatory contractors about the benefits of working with a union – free training, a skilled workforce and paid benefits.

Gove also spoke about the need to recruit and grow the Local’s membership, especially when it comes to replacing retiring members. He also discussed the healthy workload his Local continues to experience, despite talk of a recession on the horizon.
