The Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) President Scott Paul joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed a July report by Bloomberg that found construction of new manufacturing facilities has soared by 116 percent over the past year.
He described reading the report as a, “pinch yourself moment,” as the COVID-19 pandemic forced policymakers and businesses to reconsider where they source their products and where their supply chains are located. This has had a tangible impact on the growth of domestic manufacturing, he added.
Paul then spoke about the Invent Here, Make Here for Homeland Security Act, which, if passed, would make it more difficult for agencies to send technology developed with taxpayer dollars overseas.
He also talked about the “Buy Clean” policy of the Biden Administration, which strives to lower emissions in the products and materials used to build U.S. infrastructure.
