Independent Labor Voice, Tom Buffenbarger, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to talk about his concerns with Congress, and the significant separation between how states perceive each other. He also shared a warning of what a state shouldn’t do with its tax credits and funding.

Buffenbarger is worried that House Republicans inability to name a Speaker of the House could result in attacks on the United States. With no action from Congress, the country isn’t able to produce the equipment needed for both allies and the U.S. military. Buffenbarger said that when a nation can’t produce the means to protect its borders, it shouldn’t receive the benefits of its job. “Simply put, if you don’t do your job, you shouldn’t get paid,” he said.

Buffenbarger continued by discussing the differences between so-called “red” and “blue” states. From life expectancy to economic positions, Buffenbarger believes “blue” states are supposedly better for residents than the “red” states. He added that social healthcare plans in other countries leads to a 10-year greater life expectancy than anywhere in America. As some states move toward similar social healthcare plans and provide a better life for residents, they are better off than those who choose other options, he said.

Buffenbarger also discussed the example of South Carolina giving significant tax credits and educational funding to lure a Boeing production facility to the state. He shared how the Governor “took all the tax money from educational development and gave it to Boeing to land the facility.” However, now there are issues with staffing the facility and there not enough well-trained workers in the area. For Buffenbarger, it serves as a warning to other states of what not to do.
