U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the issues he believes should be top priorities of Congress during its lame-duck session.
Brown said his top three priorities are to increase funding for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), renew the Child Tax Credit and reauthorize and fund the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) Program.
He noted the NLRB has not had a funding increase since 2014, which makes it harder to enforce labor laws and oversee union elections. Brown feels Republicans have effectively starved the NLRB and prevented it from doing its job.
Before the program expired in Dec. 21, Brown said the Child Tax Credit was responsible for a 40 percent drop in the poverty rate over a six-month period, which is why it should be renewed.
