An author for the Coalition for a Prosperous America, Michele Nash-Hoff, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed her blog “It’s the Supply Chain, Stupid,” supply chain shortages and the changing workplace.

The Coalition for a Prosperous America believes in working for a new and positive U.S. trade policy that delivers prosperity and security to America. Nash-Hoff discussed the issues with America participating in too much international trade, including being victim to multiple predatory trade practices in her blog, “It’s the Supply Chain, Stupid.” In the blog, she details incidents with other countries that have found America at the center of a supply chain shortage and shares her opinion on how America could avoid the situation.

Supply chain management has not been an issue in the past when America was trading with “friendly” countries like Taiwan and the Philippines, Nash-Hoff said. However, after China joined the World Trade Organization in 2001, America and China are more connected through trade. When Chinese companies were struggling to keep up with chip production, America found itself at the center of a major supply chain shortage. American production slowed to a halt, and Nash-Hoff believes our negative trades with China are the main reason for the shortage.

During the pandemic, many workers were forced to telecommute for work. Following the end of the pandemic, these same workers believe they were equally productive working from home as they were in the office, and wanted to continue working remotely. While this has changed the workplace, Nash-Hoff believes it has impacted the ability of workers to communicate. She added that losing that personal connection with co-workers will hamper the relationships they can build.
