Continuing America’s Work Force Union Podcast’s Best of 2024 coverage, we look back to the Jan. 29 interview with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 100 Business Agent, Nick Prather. He discussed the first contract earned by DHL workers at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
Teamsters Local 100 is home to roughly 5,200 members in the Cincinnati area. A little more than 2,000 of their members work with UPS.
Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) is home to one of America's largest air delivery hubs. Local 100 was able to organize DHL’s ramp and tug workers who are part of the unit responsible for loading and unloading the freight coming in and out of CVG. Prather explained the organizing campaign and the successful vote, which passed at a 5:3 ratio in favor of the union.
Prather also discussed the Unfair Labor Practices (ULP) charges filed throughout the campaign. These charges include surveillance, misinformation, changes to the status quo and safety violations. Prather claimed the employer attempted to prevent the organizing efforts on several occasions.
