The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 807 Local Chairman Thomas Modica joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed a tentative Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) the Local’s membership reached with the railroads.
Local 807 represents 136 dues-paying railway members in Arkansas, and follows the provisions of the Railway Labor Act.
After reaching an impasse, the contract negotiations went before the Presidential Emergency Board, which made recommendations that were tentatively accepted by the Local 807 membership, Modica explained.
The contract awarded members the highest pay raise Modica has seen in 25 years of negotiating for the Union, he said. He acknowledged the membership did not get everything they wanted, but neither did the railroad companies. Oppressive attendance policies continue to remain a sticking point, he added.
