Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the need for more worker protections in the textile and electric vehicle production industries. Sen. Brown also talked about the issues in the House and what could be done to come to a resolution.
As most jobs in the textile industry are sent overseas, it becomes harder to find U.S.-made apparel. Sen. Brown has been working to point out how the government needs to keep the jobs in America and recently introduced legislation that will assist the government in supporting textile workers.
As the demand for electric vehicles grows, there is concern that China, who currently leads the world in electric vehicle production, could look to dump excess products in the American market. This could negatively impact the American economy. Sen. Brown hopes union workers will be able to produce the electric vehicles sold in America, along with the batteries needed for power.
The current issues in the House of Representatives are an example of why many people don’t like government, Sen. Brown said. The Senate passed the spending resolution to keep the government open by a near 3-to-1 ratio. On the other hand, the House struggled to pass the resolution, which almost led to a government shutdown. Sen. Brown believes that until the House is a true bipartisan representation, these issues won’t be resolved.
