Tennessee AFL-CIO President Billy Dycus joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed efforts by Tennessee lawmakers to enshrine So-Called “Right to Work” legislation in the state constitution under Amendment 1, which will be on the ballot this November.
Dycus detailed the efforts of union leaders to educate both members and the general public about the realities of So-Called “Right to Work” laws and how they negatively impact wages.
He discussed the 24 percent increase in Tennessee’s union density from 117,000 to 145,000, which he credited largely to the growth of apprenticeship programs. Dycus also spoke about the planned $5.6 billion Ford Motor Company electric car and battery plant in Stanton, Tenn., which will employ United Auto Workers (UAW) members.
